Montessori School Practical Life

Practical Life

The Practical Life area of the Montessori classroom is the first area that children are introduced to. It is here that they learn their primary movements, and where they develop their basic intellectual, social, moral and physical abilities.

Four main areas are covered in the Practical Life area. They are:

  • Care of oneself
  • Care of the environment
  • Social relations
  • Analysis and control of movement

By developing these important fundamental qualities, children become better prepared for what lies ahead for them in the more advanced areas of the classroom. This is where the basic foundation for later development and advancement is first established.
