An Overview of the Montessori Method

The Montessori Philosophy Creates a Positive, Supportive Learning Environment

Countryside Montessori follows the Montessori school philosophy. This type of early childhood school was established over 100 years ago in Italy by Dr. Maria Montessori, who had a fine ability to observe children and studied their learning processes which evolved into a unique and alternative method of education where children of different age groups and learning styles are joined together in a supportive community, where correcting is done in a positive way, and movement is always present.

The lead teacher of each of our classrooms holds an Accredited Montessori degree.

What Sets Montessori Schools Apart?

Montessori schools have unique tactics and goals that differentiate them from traditional early childhood educational facilities. Here are just a few of the ways that we set ourselves apart:

  • Fostering Independence: In a Montessori classroom, students are encouraged to learn at their own pace. In traditional classrooms, students follow the same lessons at the same time, which leaves some children behind while others pull ahead. At our preschool, students challenge themselves when they're ready, developing greater independence and self-sufficiency as well as building a greater sense of purpose and motivation.
  • Respecting Children as Unique Individuals: The core of the Montessori method revolves around a strong respect for every child as an individual person and the unique abilities that they bring to the classroom. All children learn in different ways, and we focus on helping every student achieve his or her potential across physical, social, cognitive, and emotional avenues.
  • Encouraging Different Learning Styles: We believe that everyone is born intelligent and that everyone has a unique learning style. With this in mind, Montessori schools provide a wide variety of settings and activities to appeal to each child's strengths and interests. This helps to meet everyone's needs and to keep all students engaged throughout the day.
  • Accommodating Mistakes: In the Montessori approach to early childhood development, mistakes are seen as part of the learning process. Unlike traditional schools, which reward perfection, in our classrooms mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn something new. We want to help children recognize and resolve errors on their own without embarrassment or shame.
  • Encouraging Active Learning in Unique Environments: The Montessori system emphasizes the belief that our students instinctively gain knowledge through active learning. Our style of teaching is hands-on, active, and investigative. We believe that encouraging active participation in learning while using a wide variety of materials in a social setting helps foster a love of learning that lasts your child for the rest of their life.
  • Building Attentive Citizens: At our Montessori school, we understand the importance of preparing our students to play active roles in a global community. In our learning environment, children learn the value of mutual respect, caring for the natural world, and appreciating different cultures.

The Importance of Early Childhood School

When the time comes for your children to begin their first days of their education, you will want to know that you are leaving them with people who not only care for their educational milestones, but for their social and emotional milestones as well. Preschool has grown in importance due to the principal behind sending your young child into an organized setting for a couple hours a week. At the Montessori School, we teach patience, respect, self awareness, and self confidence. These social and emotional skills are incredibly important when moving forward through the years following early childhood school, therefore by sending your children to quality preschool classes you can ensure proper school readiness, improved language and cognitive skills, and listening and comprehension. We understand that social and emotional development should be the focus of any well-developed curriculums for preschool. At our Montessori school, we help each child develop the skills needed to develop self-awareness and proper emotional regulation skills.

Enrolling your children in early childhood school allows them to work on building social awareness and skills they will utilize and continuously grow throughout their educational journey. Through participation in interactive activities with peers, our students learn the importance of direction-following, sharing, and inclusion. Countryside Montessori School focuses on using the Montessori Method, allowing each enrolled child to develop their own natural interests, opposed to following rigid educational constructs. Our teachers encourage creative, self-directed, and collaborative play with peers.
